BETWEEN GENERATIONS

(2022)
Digital Photography

The series is composed of texts and photographs made collaboratively with mothers and their teenage daughters with migration background in Berlin, Germany. The research looks into how migration adds a layer to all aspects of the everyday-life and reshapes the relationship between mothers and daughters as they settle in a new space and navigate the challenges and adventures of their different age groups. These experiences illustrate how different generations extend or disrupt family patterns and stories, as we see the development of women heads of households, women movements, divorces, and multiple income streams as patterns of resistance, solidarity, and collective action in the female world. What strategies are developed in the intimate mother-daughter space to undermine the structures and ideologies that otherwise keep them from doing what they actually want to do?
